This model allows the user to control the concentrations of potassium, sodium, and chloride in the extracellular bath as well as the relative permeability of the cell membrane to each of these ions. After determining the experimental conditions, the user can measure the electrical potential difference across the membrane (from the inside to the outside of the cell) that exists when the cell is in a "resting" (equilibrium) state. The simulation may be downloaded as freeware. |
